Culture
A way of life.
Culture traits
Features of a culture that include language, religion, art, and customs.
Factors of production
The four components (land, labor, capital, entrepreneurship) necessary for a business to be successful.
Command economies
Systems in which the government owns the means of production and makes all decisions.
Mixed economy
The economic system used by both the US and Canada. It combines elements of all other economic systems.
Limited governments
Governments led by the citizens where everyone must obey the law.
Constitution
A document used by limited governments, like the US, to create a government and protect the fundamental rights of the people.
Democracy
A system of government described as "rule by many" used to run both the US and Canada.
Individual rights
The specific freedoms of citizens that are protected by limiting the power of the government. (ex. freedom of speech)
Labor force shortage
A situation where a country lacks workers for tasks, potentially causing wages to increase.
Life expectancy
The average number of years a person is expected to live, indicating the health, wealth, and healthcare availability of a country.
Literacy rate
The percentage of people that can read and write in a country. It indicates how much a country values education; its increase correlates with higher economic development.
GDP per capita
A measure of economic output per person that tends to be higher in countries with high literacy rates.
Culture factors
Specific elements like customs, beliefs, and language that define a society.
Basic institutions
Systems common to all societies: Government (capitol buildings), Economics (banks), Education (schools), and Religion (churches).
Culture evolution
The process by which culture is learned and shared, then changes over time.
Cartographer
The term for a map maker.
