Hydrogen
The first element on the periodic table, with symbol H and atomic number 1.
Molarity (M)
The concentration of a solution expressed as moles of solute per liter of solution.
pH
A measure of the acidity or basicity of a solution, calculated as the negative logarithm of the hydronium ion concentration.
Dissociation constant (K_a)
A measure of the strength of an acid in solution, defined as the equilibrium constant for the dissociation of an acid.
Kw
The ion product constant of water, equal to 1.0imes10−14 at 25°C.
pOH
A measure of the basicity of a solution, calculated as the negative logarithm of the hydroxide ion concentration.
pKa
The negative logarithm of the acid dissociation constant (K_a), used to measure the strength of an acid.
Equilibrium Constant (K)
A value that expresses the ratio of the concentrations of products to reactants at equilibrium for a reversible reaction.
Weak acid
An acid that only partially dissociates in solution, resulting in a lower concentration of hydronium ions.
Strong base
A base that completely dissociates in solution, resulting in a high concentration of hydroxide ions.
