Cytoplasm
Contains cytoskeleton which provides structure to the cell and anchors the organelles
Nucleus
DNA and assorted proteins are stored here, surrounded by a nuclear envelope which can make nuclear pores
Nucleous
A condensed area within the nucleus which creates ribosomes
Ribosomes
Where protein synthesis occurs, composed in the nucleous and then released into the cytoplasm to react with the mRNA
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulm
Is a membrane attached to the nucleus that has ribosomes on it. It synthesizes phospholipids for the cell membrane.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulm
Does not have ribosomes attached, manufactures lipids and some steroids.
Golgi Apparatus
Flattened sacks containing cisternae, modifies, packages, and distributes lipids and proteins from SER and RER.
Secretory Vesicles
Small membrane bound pouches that pinch off from the golgi and move toward the surface of the cell.
Lysosomes
Contains enzymes that digest foreign material that is brought into the cell by phagocytosis
What is phagocytosis?
A process that kills bad cells in the body and engulfs bacteria’s and tissues
Perioxisomes
Contains enzymes that ditoxifys alcohol, perioxides, and other chemicals
