1/7
Vocabulary flashcards covering the major levels of structural organization in the human organism, including key concepts, tissue types, cell variety, and visual representations of each level.
Structural Level of Organization
Each type of building block or level from which the human body is constructed in a series of progressively larger structures.
Chemical Level
The smallest and simplest structural level that serves as the foundation for all higher levels, ranging from tiny atoms that form elements to molecules.
Cellular Level
The structural level formed by many different types of molecules combined in specific ways, where cells serve as the smallest units capable of carrying out the functions of life.
Tissue Level
The structural level consisting of groups of cells and the materials surrounding them that cooperate to perform a common function or functions.
Organ Level
The structural level where two or more tissue types combine to form something that performs a specialized task.
Organ System Level
The structural level composed of two or more organs that work together to accomplish a common function, with the human body grouped into 11 organ systems.
Organism Level
The highest level of structural organization, in which all organ systems work together to make up the organism (human body).
Four Basic Tissue Types
: muscle, epithelial, connective, and nervous.
