Compartmentalization :
the body relies on this to maintain homeostasis in diff area of the body
What often helps with the creation of Compartments?
cells
what tissue is the lining of Organs?
epithelial tissue
what does Basiapical Polarity in Epithelial Cells mean?
this means that there’s MORE nutrients on the side that attaches to the Organ
Basoapical Axis :
an axis where it’s lining is TOUCHING the Organ
Planar Axis :
an axis that RUNS ALONG the Organ
it’s arrangement can change as we run along this axis
Intracellular Fluid :
also known as “cytosol”
this makes up MOST of our body fluid
how much Intracellular Fluid makes up all our body fluid?
about half
Extracellular Fluid :
this is all the fluid that SURROUNDS the cells
what does Extracellular Fluid also contain
Interstitial Fluid
Plasma
and Other Fluids
Interstitial Fluid :
this is fluid within a tissue that surrounds the cells
EX: fat cells (theres a little water/fluid around)
Plasma :
the water with OTHER ions & nutrients within
EX: blood cells that are suspended in water/fluid
Other Fluids :
this includes CSF & Extracellular Fluid
Why is maintaining fluid in the Extracellular Fluid essential for our bodies to function?
for our structures to maintain themselves → the fluid builds pressure/structure
to maintain diff functions within the composition → allowing the functions to differ
an example of maintaining diff fluids to allow for Functions to Differ?
EX: more sodium is stored within the Extracellular Fluid & more potassium is needed in the Intracellular Fluid
