Table I.1 Solubility Rules for Inorganic Compounds
A reference table summarizing the general solubility rules and exceptions for inorganic ionic compounds in aqueous solutions.
Solubility of Group 1 Elements and Ammonium Compounds
Soluble compounds containing Group 1 elements or ammonium (NH4+), which have no listed exceptions.
Solubility of Halides (Chlorides, Bromides, Iodides)
Soluble compounds containing chlorides (Cl−), bromides (Br−), or iodides (I−), except those of Ag+, Hg22+, and Pb2+.
Solubility of Nitrates, Acetates, Chlorates, and Perchlorates
Soluble compounds containing nitrates (NO3−), acetates (CH3CO2−), chlorates (ClO3−), and perchlorates (ClO4−).
Solubility of Sulfates
Soluble compounds containing sulfates (SO42−), except those of Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Pb2+, Hg22+, and Ag+.
Solubility of Carbonates, Chromates, Oxalates, and Phosphates
Insoluble compounds containing carbonates (CO32−), chromates (CrO42−), oxalates (C2O42−), and phosphates (PO43−), except those of the Group 1 elements and NH4+.
Solubility of Sulfides
Insoluble compounds containing sulfides (S2−), except those of the Group 1 and 2 elements and NH4+.
Solubility of Hydroxides and Oxides
Insoluble compounds containing hydroxides (OH−) and oxides (O2−), except those of the Group 1 elements and Group 2 elements later than Period 2.
