what does distraction of the ulna on the humerus improve?
flexion/extension
what does general radius distraction improve?
improves radial head mobility and reduces pain.
what do anterior glides of the radius on the ulna improve?
supination
what do posterior glides of the radius on the ulna improve?
pronation
what is lateral elbow mobilization with movement/mulligan mobilization?
technique consists of applying and sustaining a lateral humeroulnar accessory glide while the patient performs adn relaxes their painful action (ie gripping). if significant improvement in pain free grip is observed, repeat the technique for a total of 6 to 10 repetitions- a belt may be used to assist with the glide (placed just distal to the joint line)
what movement of the ulna (slight) occurs with extension?
pronates slightly
what movement of the ulna (slight) occurs with flexion?
supinates slightly
what is teh screw home mechanism that occurs with flexion/extension of the elbow?
conjunt rotation of the ulna occurs with flexion/extension. the ulnar externally rotates/supinates during elbow flexion and internally rotates (pronated) during elbow extension
what motions would be restricted with limitations in the proximal radioulnar joint?
supination = pronation
what motions would be limited with limtations in humeroulnar joint?
loss of flexion more so than extension
what motions may be limited with limitations in the humeroradial joint?
loss of flexion moreso than extension
what are the general techniques you can use for the elbow?
stretching
mobility
isometrics
eccentrics
strengthening/muscle performance
therapeutic activities and return to function
cervical, shoulder, and wrist involvement
what are the general treatment guidelines for the elbow?
