four types of tissue
epethilial,connective,nervous,muscle
tissue
a group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
epethilial tissue
covers all body surfaces in and out. main glandular (glands) tissue. Attached to underlying connective tissue at the basement membrane.
epethlial tissue
has no vascular system-no blood supply. cells reproduce rapidly results in rapid healing(scarring).cells tightly packed together.
Functions of Epethilial tissue.
Secretion, absorption, protection, excretion, senses.
simple
single layered
Stratified
Multiple layers.
Squamos
Flat diffusion and filtration
Cuboidal
Cubed. secretion absorption and protection
Columnar
column (rectangle). abroption secretion protection.
Simple Squamos
Air sac & lining of lungs, blood vessels. capillaries.
Simple cuboidal
Kidneys tubules, covering ovaries and ducts.
Simple columnar
Contains goblet cells that secrete mucus. Can have microvilia to increase surface area. lining of small intestine, oviducts, digestive tract, and uterus. Absorbs nutrients.
Goosebumps
Arector pill muscle contracted.
Blisters form
Dermis pulls away from the epedermis.
Psuedostratified Columnar
Appears stratified but a single layer of cells with nuclei at different levels. Can have cilia & goblet cells which secrete mucus. Secretion and cilia-aided movement. Lining air passages & tubes of reproductive system.
Transitional Epethilium
Stretchable. Blocks diffusion. In urinary bladder.
Glandular Epethilium
Cells specialized to secrete substances. Make up the glands. Salivary, sweat, hormones.
psuedostratified ciliated columnar
lining of trachea, sweeps impurities towards throat.
Simple cuboidal
lining of kidney tubules, various glands. Absorbs molecules.
stratified squamos
Lining of nose, mouth, esophagus, anal canal, vagina. Protects.
Connective tissue
Most abundant tissue in body binds structure together. Provides protection, framework, fills space, stores fat, produces blood cells, fights infection.
Connective tissue
Composed of more scattered cells in matrix. Made up ground substance and fibers. Most have a good blood supply
Types of cells in connective tissue
Macrophages, fibroblasts, mast cells
fibroblasts
produce fibers
Mast cells
prevents clots
Macrophages
consumers
Collagenous
in bones, ligaments, tendons
elastic
ears, vocal cords
Loose connective tissue or Aerolar tissu
Binds underlying organs to skin and each other. Forms delicate thin membranes throughout the body.
Adipose tissue (fat)
Protective cushion, Insulation to preserve body heat, stores heat.
Fibrous connective tissue
forms a tendon
tendons
muscle to bone
ligament
bone to bone
Dense fibrous connective tisue
has collagenous fibers closely packed together. In dermis of skin tendons ligaments. Functions in support.
Cartilage
type of dense connective tissue
cartilage cells
chondroyctes
Hyaline cartilage
Covers the end of joints. Nose respitrory passages, serves as padding
Elastic cartilage
external ear and larynx.
Fibrocartilage
shock absorbing. between vertabrae.
bone tissue
osseous
smooth muscle tissue
involuntary
cardiac muscle tissue
involuntary
skeletal muscle sytem
voluntary.
neurons
transmit signals
neuroglia
support cells
fascia
supports your muscles
meninges
surrounds your brain
what cellls in epethilium are responsible for diffusion and filtration.
squamos
type of cartilage found in your nose
ihyaline cartilage
which type of epethilial tissue is found in the lining of lungs and blood vessels
simple squamos
keratinocytes
is a tough, waterproof material found in the upper layers of some stratified squamous epethilium
ground subtance
surrounds cells and makes up most of the volume of connective tissue
bone
has numberous fibers in the matrix that are calcified because of mineral deposits with collagen fibers that give strength, rigidity, and resists shattering
type of cells in glands
cuboidal
the type of protein fiber that is branched and wavy, after stretching it will return to its original length
elastic
