Mixtures
not a purse substance like compounds and elements; chemical properties of the substances in the mixture are not changed
Heterogeneous Mixture
particles are large and able to be seen
Homogeneous
molecules are so small that the composition is the same all through no matter the size of the sample; also called solutions; solvent determines the physical state of the solution and is usually present in a larger amount than the solute
Solution
homogeneous mixture; if the the solvent is water the it is called aqueous(aq); solution=solute +solvent
Molar concentration(molarity M)
this pertains to the solute; measure of concentration of the solute in the solution
M= mols of solute/Liters of solution
concentration does not cvhange no matter how much of a solution you sample out
Dilution
the process of reducing the concentration of a solution by adding more solvent- the mols of solute does not change
MV=MV: this tells me the mols of solute does not change; the volume and concentration change but the amount of dissolved substance(mols) stays the same
