cell division
The process by which one cell divides to become two cells

cell cycle
An ordered sequence of events in the life of a cell

interphase
The period between cell divisions when the cell grows and performs its usual functions.

prophase
The first phase of mitosis in which chromosomes become visible, the nuclear envelop dissolves, and the spindle forms

mitosis
A process of nuclear division in eukaryotic cells conventionally divided into five stages: prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

metaphase
The second of 4 divisions of mitosis when the centromeres of duplicated and chromosomes are aligned on a central plane. Fully formed spindle fibers attach to the sister chromatids from opposite poles

anaphase
"Third phase of mitosis, beginning when sister chromatids separate from each other and ending when a complete set of daughter chromosomes have arrived at each of the two poles of the cell"

telophase
The fourth and final stage of mitosis, in which daughter nuclei are forming and cytokinesis has typically begun.

cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm during cell division

Diploid
describes a cell that has pairs of chromosomes

Haploid
describes a cell that has only one chromosome from each pair

prophase I
crossing over occurs during this phase
anaphase I
homologous paired chromosomes are pulled to opposite poles
telophase II
results in 4 cells
metaphase I&II
Chromosomes line up along equator
Sperm
male gamete
Egg
female gamete
Meiosis
Cell division that produces reproductive cells in sexually reproducing organisms
