Task roles
Roles that focus on getting the group's task done, including roles like Initiator, Information Seeker, and Evaluator.
Social roles
Roles that enhance group dynamics by building relationships and maintaining the group, such as Supporter and Harmonizer.
Negative roles - self centered
Roles that prioritize individual needs over group needs, such as Monopolizer, central negative, self confessor, compliment / recognition seeker, joke or clown
Negative roles- unproductive
Roles that hinder group progress or contribute negatively, including Blocker and Social loafer.
Norms
Unwritten rules that guide behavior within a group, which can be enforced or changed.
Status
The relative social, professional, or personal rank or importance of an individual in a group, influenced by title or emergent authority.
Trust
The willingness to rely on another person based on integrity, strength, ability, and dependability.
Gatekeeper
A task role that regulates the flow of information within the group.
Harmonizer
A social role that helps to minimize conflict and promote a cooperative atmosphere.
Compromiser
A social role that seeks to find middle ground and facilitate agreement among group members.
Monopolizer/Dominator
A self-centered role that seeks to dominate conversations and control the group discussions.
The listener
An unproductive role characterized by a passive presence with little active participation or contribution.
