why nanotechnology

  • interested in applications of mse & I want to explore specializations to decide on one for grad school

  • it’s interesting how something so small could make a huge impact

  • field is not mainstream in the Philippines so I want to grow the field and create products that can benefit several industries

5
New cards

why nanolabs

  • researched a bunch of labs and found that this was one of the only ones specializing in everything nano

  • spoke to research roy-john Larkin who said that nanolabs’ work environment was really great & that this would be a good learning experience for undergraduate students

  • laboratory techniques

  • technical writing

from organizations & clubs

  • project management

7
New cards

my research

  • investigated the feasibility of phenolic compounds extracted from cilantro leaves as an antimicrobial agent against klebsiella pneumoniae

  • klebsiella pneumoniae causes pneumonia, meningitis, and several infections

  • antimicrobial resistance

  • procedures: maceration, filtration, distillation, ferric chloride testing, & antimicrobial assay

  • tested: maceration temperature, concentration of phenolic compounds, comparison between phenolic compounds and chloramphenicol

  • recommendations: usage of rotary evaporator, longer maceration periods, & gas chromatography mass spectrometry

8
New cards

nanolabs research

  • developed nanowire-carbon fiber composites in hopes of achieving better electrochemical performance in zinc-ion batteries to address the drawbacks of lithium-ion batteries (safety issues, high cost, limited resources)

9

questions

  • how do you see nanolabs in 5 years?

  • what is one thing you’re most proud of about nanolabs?
