Why may it be important to determine the moment about an axis
In some instances it is more useful to know the moment generated around an axis rather than the whole moment itself.
Eg loosing a lug nut it is more beneficial to know the moment created around the axis of rotation of the lug nut and not the whole moment
How do you determine the moment around an axis
Ma = (unit vector.Mo)(unit vector)
In simple terms it is the unit vector of the axis do product with the Moment at o which will then yield a scalar. Then multiplied with the unit vector of the axis again to get it into vector format.
What does the sign of Ma tell us
If Ma is positive then the sense is in the same direction as unit vector
If negative opposite direction obviously.
