Land Transfer Act
An act amending the law relating to the transfer of land and the registration of title to land.
Registrar
An official responsible for the administration and registration of land titles under the Land Transfer Act.
Crown grants
Legal grants of land by the Crown, usually in fee simple.
Certificate of title
A document issued by the Registrar confirming a person's legal ownership of a property.
Encumbrance
A claim against a property, such as a mortgage or lien, that affects the rights of the owner.
Easement
A legal right to use another's land for a specific purpose.
Caveat
A notice filed with the Registrar to protect a person's interest in a property.
Deputy Registrar
An official appointed to assist the Registrar in carrying out the provisions of the Land Transfer Act.
Priority of registration
The order of precedence that determines which claims on a property take precedence over others.
Memorial of registration
A record entered in the register that provides details about the registration of an instrument affecting a land title.
Transfer of land
The legal process of changing ownership of land from one party to another.
Mortgages
A legal agreement by which a bank or creditor lends money at interest in exchange for taking title of the debtor's property.
Power of attorney
A legal document giving one party the authority to act on behalf of another party in legal or financial matters.
Proprietor
The registered owner of an estate or interest in land.
Memorial
An official record that notes events or changes regarding a land title or interest.
Search certificate
A document issued by the Registrar confirming the current state of title and any encumbrances on a property.
