Situation:
I faced a similar situation midway through my second internship with Marathon as an electrical projects engineering intern at their Martinez site
Task:
While working on my second project, I found some major documentation discrepancies among the wiring connections, equipment type, and equipment manufacturer in a switch station between the computer model, field photos, and the single-line drawings.
Action:
My 3rd project emerged from this discovery and my mentor assigned me as the project owner/lead where I was tasked with correcting these inconsistencies in the single-line drawings and computer model to match what was found out in the field.
To complete this task, I learned the basics of redlining documents and how to use editing softwares like Bluebeam and Autocad.
I also met with my team often to ask them questions and discuss any details I had missed while editing.
Result:
After extensive drawing reviews with my team, I was able to publish a new revision of the single line drawing and update the computer model with the corrections in a reasonable timeframe.
In addition to learning about the importance of keeping reliable documentation, I considered this project to be a huge milestone for me as an electrical engineer since this was my first single-line revision I had published with my name on a piece of physical documentation.
