define lipids
a broad group of organic compounds that are hydrophobic lipids have more C H than o and they have more energy than carbon

dehydration reaction of lipds
H2o is removed from the lipids
differentiate between mono-di, and triglycerides
monoglycerides have 1 fatty acid chain attracted to the glycerol molecule while diglycerides have 2,triglyceridesc have 3

saturated fats
has 1 carbon-carbon bond and solid at room temperature
unsaturated fat
contain 1 or more double bond (hence why there’s a double line in the picture) its a liquid at room temperature

phospholipids
a type of lipids, it forms the primary cell membrane structure, the chains are hydrophobic
how do phospholipids differ from triglycerides
phospholipids have a glycerol backbone and attracted to 2 fatty acid tails and 1 phosphate group while triglycerides have a glycerol backbone attached to 3 fatty acids group and no phosphate group.

steroids
structures of steroids are mostly flat and rigid
what are 2 functions of steroids in a cell and human body
the cell stablizes the membrane (homeostasis),essential component of animal and cell plasma

the building blocks of a lipids technically (because they don’t have any)
fatty acids and Glycerol
what kind of bond links fatty acids and glycerol
ester linkage

what are trans a cis fats
cis and trans fats are both unsaturated fats and have a double bond but trans fats hydrogen bond are both on opposite sides makin it look mor linear
what functional groups are both in fats and oils and phospholipids
they both have ketone but phospholipids have a phosphate group

Which part of the phospholipid is hydrophilic and which on is hydrophobic
The head is hydrophilic while the tails are hydrophobic
