1923- American Indian Defence Association- Founded by Collier, campaigned to have laws promoting self-determination. pushed for investigation into reservation conditions- led to Meriam report 1928. merged with AAIA in 1936.

1944- National Congress of American Indians- used courts to end reservations, involved in Harrison vs laveen 1948

AAIA

1922- Association on American Indian Affairs, - opposed allotment/termination policy, helped to push through indian child welfare act 1980

NARF

1970- Native American Rights Fund- wanted to gain back lost lands, trained attorneys, helped in the Bolst decision 1974= upheld fishing rights in Washington states for NAs

AIM

1968- American Indian Movement- militant, involved in political events e.g took over BIA 1972. key leader= Russel means (NA). (siege of alcatraz 1969)

SAI

1911- Society of American Indians- by assimilated natives educated in native boarding schools. pro-assimilation and and for better healthcare provisions. resulted in citizenship act 1924

IRA

1882- Indian Rights Association- supported assimilation, made by congress

1961- National Indian Youth Council- wanting to preserve fishing rights- e.g 1968 ‘fish in’, resulting in 1974 U.S. v. Washington (Boldt Decision), which upheld native fishing rights in washington
