Vocabulary practice flashcards covering plant structures, functions, photosynthesis, and reproductive processes aligned with Virginia Science SOL 4.2.
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants produce their own food (sugar) using chlorophyll, carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight, releasing oxygen as a byproduct.

Chlorophyll
The green pigment in plant leaves that enables plants to trap light energy from the sun to produce food (sugar).
Roots
Plant structures that anchor the plant and absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
Stem
The plant structure that provides support and allows the movement of water and nutrients throughout the plant.
Leaves
The primary food-producing structures of green plants that serve as the main sites for photosynthesis.

Flowers
The reproductive structures of flowering plants.
Pollination
The process by which pollen is transferred from the stamen (male reproductive structure) to the pistil (female reproductive structure) by wind, water, or animals.

Stamen
The male reproductive structure of a flower where pollen is produced.
Pistil
The female reproductive structure of a flower with a stigma at the tip where pollen lands.

Seeds
Structures formed during the reproductive process of flowering plants with which most plants reproduce.
Petal
A flower structure whose color and scent serve to attract insects and other pollinators.
