Shoulder joint
Also called glenohumeral and most freely movable joint in body
Glenoid labrum
Fibrocartilaginous rim around glenoid cavity
Reinforcing ligaments
Corcacohumerla ligament and glenohumeral ligaments
Coracohumeral joint
Helps support weight of upper limb
Glenohumeral ligaments
Strengthen anterior capsule but are weak support
Rotator cuff tendons
Subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor
Shoulder dislocations
Common injuries due to mobility in the shoulder
Glenoid cavity
Provides poor support when humerus is rotated laterally and abducted
Elbow joint
Humerus articulates with radius and ulna
Anular ligament
Surrounds head of radius
Ulnar and radial collateral ligament
Two capsular ligaments restrict side to side
Hip joint
Also called coxal and is good range of motion but limited by the deep socket
Acetabular labrum
Rim of cartilaginous that enhances depth of socket (hip dislocations are rare)
Hip reinforcing ligaments
Lliofemural, pubofemroal, ischiogemoral, ligamentum teres
Ligamentum teres
Slack during most hip movements so not important stabilizer and does contain artery thatโs supplyโs head of femur
Knee joint
Largest and most complex joint of body
3 joints
Knee has how many joints surrounded by single cavity
Femoropatellar joint
Plane joint and allows gliding motion during knee flexion
Tibiofemoral joint
Laterla and medial joints together are called
Lateral and medial joint
Joint between femoral condoles and lateral and medial menisci of tibia
Patellar ligament
Ligament to test knee jerk reflex
Medial and lateral patellar retinacular patellar ligament
Quadriceps gives rise to 3 broad ligaments that run from patella to tibia
Capsular, intrascapular, and extra scapular
Stabilize knee joint
Fibular and tibial collateral
Prevent rotation when knee is extended
Arcuate popliteal
Reinforces joint capsule posteriorly
Oblique popliteal
Stabilizes posterior knee joint
Intrascacpular
Reside within capsule but outside synovial cavity
Anterior cruciate ligament
Attaches to anterior tibia and prevents sliding of tibia and stops hyperextension of knee
Posterior cruciate ligament
Attaches to posterior tibia and prevents backward sliding of tibia and forward sliding of femur
