必死

ひっし = desperate or frenzied, Ex: 必死で走った。= ひっし で はしった。= I ran desperately.

大切

たいせつ = important or precious {Kyoko’s brother describes her as 大切な妹 = precious little sister}

親切

しんせつ = kind or considerate

色々

いろいろ = various or diverse, Ex: 色々食べたい。= I want to eat various things/try lots of things. {Note: 色々 emphasizes variety over quantity}

 不得意

ふとくい = (noun or na-adj.) = one’s weak spot, not good at or weak in, Ex: 私は料理が不得意です。= わたし は りょうり が ふとくい です。 = I’m not good at cooking.

快適

かいてき = comfortable or pleasant (from Shun’s podcast about bags), Ex: そのホテルは清潔で快適だった。= That hotel was clean and comfortable. (clean as in sanitary = 清潔= せいけつ)

便利

べんり = convenient or useful

清潔

せいけつ = clean or tidy, sanitary Ex: その部屋はとても清潔だった。= That room was very clean.

真剣

しんけん = serious or earnest, focused Ex: 彼は真剣に勉強している。= He is studying seriously. Ex: (from Terrace House, Momo and Rika say to Misaki: 真剣な話 = しんけん な はなし= It was a serious conversation

前向き

まえむき = positive or forward-looking, optimistic, Ex: 彼女は明るく前向きな性格だ。= かのじょ は あかるく まえむき な せいかく だ 。= Her personality is cheerful and positive.

平和

へいわ = peace, tranquility, harmonious state (used by the Terrace House commentators to describe the vibe the week of Momo’s birthday)

変

へん = strange, unusual, or abnormal; used to describe something that deviates from the norm. Ex: 図書館に変な人来たんだよね = a weird person came into the library (says the librarian to her brother in “A Beautiful Life”)

残酷

ざんこく = cruel, brutal, or harsh (Kyoko’s mom says it’s 残酷 of her to tell Shuji the truth about the illness.)

まけずきらい = competitive, unwilling to lose, or tenacious.

ひまなじかん = free time, leisure time, or spare time.

綺麗な景色

きれいなけしき = {na-adj.} beautiful scenery or landscape.

頑固

がんこ = {na-adj.} stubborn or obstinate. Ex: うちのチワワは頑固で、面白いです。うちの チワワは がんこで、おもしろいです。= My Chihuahua is stubborn and funny.

失礼

しつれい = {na-adj., noun, suru verb} rude, rudeness

忠実

ちゅうじつ = {na-adj.} faithful or loyal. Ex: 犬が大好きです。おもしろくて、忠実だからです。= I love dogs because they are interesting and loyal.

根本的

こんぽんてき = {na-adj.} fundamental or essential. 根本的な質問 = a basic question

最終的

さいしゅうてき = {na-adj.} final or ultimate. 最終的な決定 = a final decision.

伝統的

でんとうてき = {na-adj.} traditional or customary. 伝統的な価値観 = traditional values.
