3 - 3 - 2 Imperfect Cadence
Formula
I - Ib - V
Includes a runny bass line - the quaver run up is essential
A juicy 9-8 suspension can be added to the progression if approached with a viio7
Can work for an 8-8-7 but will cause jumps
4 - 3 - 2 Imperfect Cadence
1st, 2nd & 3rd Formulae
Can use a Dominant or Substitute:
viio7 - I (i) - V
viio - I (i) - V
V7b - I (i) - V
Can use a viib - Ib - V but MUST double the 5th in viib and add a 7-6 suspension to the viib
4 - 3 - 2 Imperfect Cadence
4th Formula
IVb - I - V
This can be used in the middle of a phrase
Can have a iii chord before the IVb (if melody allows) i.e 5,4,3,2
3 - 4 - 5 (in a minor key) Imperfect Cadence
Formula
i - ivb - V
This is a Phrygian cadence (ivb- V)
Can tell that melody is 3 - 4 - 5 instead of 6 - 7 - 8 since there is a tone between the 4 - 5 but a semitone between the 7 - 8
