Why is it important for doctors to test for reflexes?
Exists in the first 6 months at birth and doctors test if these reflexes are present to find damage to neural development
Sucking Reflex
When the roof of the baby's mouth is touched, the baby will start to suck
Rooting Reflex
Stroking the infant's cheek which causes the baby to turn its head towards the side that was stroked and open its mouth
Grasping Reflex
When an object is placed in an infant's palm or sole of the foot, they will automatically grasp it with their fingers or toes.
Moro Reflex
Sudden loss of support or by a loud noise, causing the infant to arch their back, throw back their head, and extend their arms and legs.
Babinski Reflex
Stroking the sole of the foot, which causes the big toe to extend upward and the other toes to fan out
