What is the definition of a family according to the notes?
A group of people who are intimately related, living under the same roof, supporting and maintaining each other socially, economically, and emotionally.
How do parents fulfill the economic support function of a family?
Parents make money to support the child's needs.
What is the educational function of parents in a family?
Parents lay the foundation for the child's education.
How is the cultural function of a family defined?
Parents passing on tradition, belief, tools, and culture.
What defines a single parent family structure?
A family where one parent is present and the other is absent.
What defines a nuclear family structure?
A family where both the mother and father are present.
What is a sibling household?
A household where both parents are absent or dead and the older sibling takes care of their younger siblings.
What defines an extended family?
A family where different generations live under one roof.
What is a re-organised family?
A family where one of the spouses was in a previous relationship and had a child.
What is a family tree?
A diagram that is used to show relationships among family members.
What is defined as a union?
The specific arrangement or legal status by which a couple comes together to form a family.
What is a legal marriage?
A union formed through a legal contract in court.
What is a common law or consensual union?
A union where a couple is living together but not legally married.
What is a visiting union?
A union where the couple is living in different houses but co-operating as a family.
What is an arranged marriage?
A union where a parent selects the spouse.
What is a shotgun marriage?
A marriage where a couple is forced to marry because of pregnancy.
What is a marriage of convenience?
A marriage where someone marries for wealth or status/position.
How is monogamy defined in the family tradition notes?
A relationship with one male and one female.
What is courtship according to the notes?
Normally the first sign which indicates people are interested in family life.
