Duty of Care:- Person who commits offence as do not take such steps that are reasonable for the needs of an animal for which they are responsible for met to the extent by good practice.

5 Needs :- legislation from farm animals , slightly different as farm animals are used as production but the same principles apply.

Suitable diet = access to fresh water , maintain full health + vigour ; ad-lib water and fed according to species.

Protected from pain , suffering , injury and disease = prevention through rapid diagnosis + treatment , vet treatment access , free from neglect and protected from harm.

Suitable environment = ensures condition + treatment avoiding mental suffering and replicate a natural environment , mental stimulation , enrichment, protection and safety.

Able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns = providing sufficient space , proper facilities , company of animal's own kind , social , herd/group dynamics , correct enclosure size , natural environment.

Any need to be housed with / apart from other animals = providing appropriate environment including relevant companionship for species , partner , herd dynamics , pack dynamics and solitary.
