Describe the procedure for measuring pulse

  • place the patients hand in a resting position on a surface palm up

  • feel along the inside of the wrist with your fingertips, locating the radical pulse below the thumb

  • look at your watch or clock and find a starting point

  • count the beats you feel for 30 secs and then multiply by 2

  • if pulse is irregular, count for a full minute and don’t multiply
