Abuse
A variety of harmful behaviors toward another, which includes physical, emotional, or sexual harm.
Emotional Abuse
A form of abuse characterized by the use of verbal and non-verbal communication to harm an individual’s emotional well-being.
Neglect
Failure to meet an individual’s basic needs, such as food, clothing, medical care, and safety.
Social Learning Theory
The theory that suggests violence is a learned behavior influenced by environmental factors.
Mandated Reporter
A professional required by law to report suspected cases of abuse or neglect.
Intimate Partner Violence
Abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship between current or former partners.
Cycle of Violence
The recurring pattern of abuse characterized by tension building, acute violence, and a honeymoon phase.
Caregiver Burden
The emotional, physical, and financial strain experienced by individuals caring for those who are ill or disabled.
Signs of Child Abuse
Indicators that may suggest child abuse, including unexplained injuries, fearfulness, and changes in behavior.
Financial Abuse
Improper or illegal use of an elder person's finances, often by someone in a position of trust.
