<ol><li><p>Point to epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis</p></li><li><p>What are their jobs? (Include position &amp; composition)</p></li></ol><p></p>
  1. Point to epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis

  2. What are their jobs? (Include position & composition)

Epidermis = barrier, superficial, composed of dead keratinocyte layers for protection

Dermis = deep to epidermis, composed of loose & dense irregular connective tissue for support & resistant to pulling in all directions. Holds blood vessels, glands, sensors

Hypodermis = deep to dermis, composed of adipose connective tissue for energy storage, cushioning, insulation

<ol><li><p>Point to stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, stratum corneum.</p></li><li><p>What are functions of each epidermis layer?</p></li><li><p>How do keratinocytes develop/maintain?</p></li></ol><p></p>
  1. Point to stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, stratum corneum.

  2. What are functions of each epidermis layer?

  3. How do keratinocytes develop/maintain?

  1. Basale = dividing layer for keratinocytes

  2. Granulosum = packed full of keratin cells

  3. Lucidum = extra barrier against friction, pressure, only in thick skin

  4. Corneum = stratified dead keratinized cells, barrier, hold moisture in, keep bacteria out

3
New cards
<ol><li><p>Point to papillary &amp; reticular layers</p></li><li><p>Structure &amp; Function of these layers?</p></li></ol><p></p>
  1. Point to papillary & reticular layers

  2. Structure & Function of these layers?

  1. Papillary = connects to the epidermis’ stratum basale through papillae projections, loose connective tissue, flexible & holds capillaries, touch sensors

  2. Reticular = irregular, dense connective tissue, resistant to tearing & can stretch, packed fibers/collagen

4
New cards
<ol><li><p>Locate hair follicle, bulb, shaft, matrix, papilla, medulla, cortex, and cuticle.</p></li><li><p>Locate sebaceous gland</p></li><li><p>Locate sweat glands</p></li></ol><p></p>
  1. Locate hair follicle, bulb, shaft, matrix, papilla, medulla, cortex, and cuticle.

  2. Locate sebaceous gland

  3. Locate sweat glands

5
New cards
  1. Build the temperature-control feedback loop. (Too hot, too cold)

  2. How does environment affect cooling down, even if there is sweat secreted?

  1. Locate Compact bone, spongy bone, marrow space

  2. Locate on the long bone: periosteum, endosteum, medullary cavity, epiphysis, diaphysis, metaphysis

7
New cards

How does compact bone, spongy bone, and marrow space relate?

8
New cards
<ol><li><p>Locate an osteon, lamellae, central canal, lacuna, osteocyte, canaliculi</p></li></ol><p></p>
  1. Locate an osteon, lamellae, central canal, lacuna, osteocyte, canaliculi

9
New cards
<p>How does structure of osteon relate to its function?</p>

How does structure of osteon relate to its function?

Matrix rings, canal…

10
New cards

What contributes to stiffness vs toughness?

Stiffness = resistant to deformation (mineral)

Toughness = resistant to cracking (collagen)
