Short-Term Memory

Long-Term Memory

Stores vast amounts of information for an extended period.

Sensory Memory

Briefly stores sensory information from the environment.

Explicit Memory

Conscious recollection of facts and information; also called declarative memory.

Implicit Memory

Unconscious influence of past experiences on behavior; also called non-declarative memory.

Episodic Memory

Memory for specific personal experiences or events.

Semantic Memory

Memory for general knowledge, facts, concepts, and meanings.

Procedural Memory

Memory for skills and how to perform learned actions.

Encoding

The process of converting information into a form that can be stored in memory.

Storage

The process of retaining information in memory over time.

Retrieval

The process of recalling or accessing information stored in memory.

Selective Attention

Focusing on one stimulus or task while ignoring other stimuli.

Sustained Attention

Maintaining focus on a task or stimulus for an extended period.

Divided Attention

Distributing attention between multiple tasks or stimuli at the same time.

Alternating Attention

Shifting attention back and forth between different tasks or sources of information.

Inattentional Blindness

Failure to notice a visible stimulus because attention is focused elsewhere.
