Pharmacology
is a hormone that raises blood glucose levels by telling the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream.
Why is glucagon used in refractory anaphylaxis?
It increases the HR, heart contractility and BP by bypassing beta receptors, making it useful when adrenaline is not working effectively, especially in patients that are taking beta-blockers.
Indications
Symptomatic hypoglycaemia, refractory anaphylaxis with persistent hypotension/shock
