What are biotic factors in a habitat?
These are living factors that have an impact on feeding and predator-prey relationships and different things like that
What are abiotic factors?
These are non-living factors like their habitat (rocks, temperature, and sunlight)
What is the range of tolerance?
Levels of environmental factors beyond which a population cannot survive (range between the two)
What is the zone of stress?
Where an organism can live but it is not healthy or successful enough and will not thrive
What is the optimum range?
Best conditions for growth and reproduction
What is required for coral reef formation?
low depth and low temperature, they also need sunlight to perform photosynthesis to then perform zooxanthellae
What is a biome?
Geographical areas that have particular climate and sustain in a specific community of plants and animals
What is a climograph?
Graph that shows the temperature range by month and the amount of percipitation and they are graphed together so you can see how they relate to each other
What are the two main abiotic factors which determine the distribution of terrestrial biomes?
temperature and percipitation
What are some characteristics of a tropical ecosystem?
high precipitation, minimal season variation, high temperature, and very high plant biodiversity
What are some characteristics of a temperate ecosystem?
medium precipitation, warm summers, cold winters, spirng and autumn, high/medium temperature, deciduous broad leafed trees which lose leaves in colder seasons
What are some characteristics of a taiga ecosystem?
low precipitation, short summers, long colder winters, medium.high temperatures, and evergreen forests dominated by conifer trees
What are some characteristics of a desert ecosystem?
high precipitation, minimal variation, very low temperatures, and little regitation often with spines for leaves adapted for water conservation
What are some characteristics of a grassland ecosystem?
high/medium precipitation, dry and cold seasons, medium/high temperatures, and grass species, little significant tree growth because of lack of water
What are some characteristics of a tundra ecosystem?
very low precipitation, short summers and very cold winters, medium/low temperatures, and no trees because lack of water and short growing season. Soil is frozen for most of the year so little growth
How to plants adapt in the tundra ecosystem?
Their waxy leaves help to preserve water and the shallow root system helps to avoid permafrost. They typically are close to the ground, small in height, slow growing, and have hair to trap heat
What are some adaptations to the hot desert?
expire, evade, and endure
What are some adpatations to the tropical rainforest?
They have a number of layers form ground level to canopy, this means that organisms display a wide range of adaptations to survive in the very competitive environment
