stereotype formation
repeated exposure
IAT test
latency response measure that measures how long it takes you to respond to something. best at measuring average behaviour than individual
project implicit
nonprofit created by Harvard that created the IAT.
racial bias in healthcare
a general bias exists even in racialized providers. includes implicit stereotypes and colourism
gender bias in healthcare
exists against female doctors and in the research. personality disorders dxed differently when same symptoms shown (BPD=women, ASPD=men) due to stereotypes
weight bias in healthcare
both neg attitudes and stereotypes are common. seen as lazy and less compliant. given less time due to this. less likely to recieve cancer screening referral. bias feeds itself
racial/ethnic bias in education
teachers show similar bias rates to the overall population. # of black students in class impacts this slightly, but teacher’s own race does not. implicitly affects academic performance (stereotype threat?)
gender bias in education
biased teachers are associated with girls scoring lower on test scores etc. Self confidence/stereotype threat issue?
immigrant bias in education
teachers tend to show a preference for non-immigrant students. more immigrants at the school = worse scores (may be related to realistic group conflict theory)
AI LLM biases
biased similarly to the people whose data it was trained on. IAT doesnt work on them = must measure bias in a different way. impacts=hiring decisions
