Blood
A connective tissue composed of formed elements and plasma, comprising about 8% of total body weight.
Plasma
The matrix of the blood, which consists of 55% of total blood volume.
Formed Elements
The solid components of blood tissue making up 45% of blood volume, consisting of blood cells and platelets.
Blood pH
Slightly alkaline, ranging from 7.35 to 7.45.
Blood Viscosity
Blood is heavier and 4x thicker (Viscous) than water.
Male Blood Volume
Averages 5-6 liters in males.
Female Blood Volume
Averages 4-5 liters in females.
Erythrocytes
Also known as BBC's, red blood cells, or rubrocytes.
Leukocytes
Also known as WBC's or white blood cells.
Thrombocytes
Also known as platelets, elements responsible for blood clotting that are vital in oxygen transport and immune response.
