test levels
Are groups of testing activities that are organized and managed as a whole.
test level
Specific implementation of the testing process.
Component testing (unit testing, module testing)
A test level that focuses on individual hardware or software components
integration testing
A test level that focuses on interactions between components or systems.
component integration testing
Testing performed to expose defects in the interfaces and interaction between integrated components.
System Integration Testing
Testing the combination and interaction of systems.
Acceptance testing
The program is accepted by the customer to meet the stated requirements or testers pass end-to-end scenarios from the user's point of view;
Big bang integration testing
is a testing approach where all components or modules are integrated and tested as a single unit.
Incremental Approach
With this approach, testing is performed by combining two or more logically related modules. Then other related modules are added step by step and tested for proper functioning. The process continues until all modules are connected and successfully tested.
Top-Down Approach
At first, all high-level modules are tested, and gradually low-level modules are added one by one. All lower-level modules are simulated with plugs with similar functionality, then when ready they are replaced with real active components.
Bottom-Up Approach
In the bottom-up strategy, each module at lower levels is consistently tested with higher-level modules until all modules are tested.
Sandwich Integration Testing
Test top and bottom layers in parallel
System Testing
A test level that focuses on verifying that a system as a whole meets specified requirements.
Acceptance Testing
A test level that focuses on determining whether to accept the system.
User Acceptance Testing
A type of acceptance testing performed to determine if intended users accept the system.
Operational Acceptance testing
A type of acceptance testing performed to determine if operations and/or systems administration staff can accept a system.
Contractual acceptance testing
A type of acceptance testing performed to verify whether a system satisfies its contractual requirements.
Alpha testing
A type of acceptance testing performed in the developer's test environment by roles outside the development organization.
Beta testing
A type of acceptance testing performed at an external site to the developer's test environment by roles outside the development organization.
End-to-end testing
A type of testing in which business processes are tested from start to finish under production-like circumstances.
Positive Testing
testing of cases that are expected to succeed
Negative Testing
a testing method performed on the software application by providing invalid or improper data sets as input.
