What makes functions f:X→Y and g:A→B equal?
Two functions f:X→Y and g:A→B are equal if and only if:
1) X=A
2) Y=B
3) f(x)=g(x) for all x∈X
What does it mean for a function f to be injective?
f:X→Y
f is injective if different elements in X are mapped to different elements in Y, so whenever f(x1)=f(x2) for x1,x2∈X, then x1=x2
What does it mean for a function f to be surjective?
f:X→Y
f is surjective if any y in Y is the image of some element x in X, that is ∀y∈Y∃x∈X:y=f(x)
Definition 4.1
