Hip Bone
A bone formed by the junction of the ilium, ischium, and pubis, which articulates with the sacrum at the sacroiliac joints and anterolateral walls of the pelvis.
Acetabulum
The region of the hip bone where the ilium, ischium, and pubis meet one another.
Sacroiliac Joints
The joints at which the hip bones articulate with the sacrum.
Symphysis Pubis
The anterior point of articulation between the two hip bones.
Ilium
The upper flattened part of the hip bone that possesses the iliac crest.
Iliac Crest
A structure on the upper flattened part of the ilium that can be felt through the skin along its entire length, ending anteriorly at the anterior superior iliac spine and posteriorly at the posterior superior iliac spine.
Anterior Superior Iliac Spine
The prominent anterior termination of the iliac crest.
Posterior Superior Iliac Spine
The prominent posterior termination of the iliac crest.
Iliac Tubercle
A prominence on the iliac crest lying about 2in. (5cm) behind the anterior superior iliac spine.
Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine
A prominence located below the anterior superior iliac spine.
