Quantitative Research (Torneo & Torneo, 2017)
The systematic empirical study of social dynamics utilizing mathematical and statistical methods.
Qualitative Research
A research approach characterized by its subjective nature, pliable guidelines, unknown variables, and reliance on interviews, observations, and narrative descriptions in words to build theory.
Descriptive Quantitative Research
A research type whose main goal is to acquire information regarding the present condition of a situation or phenomenon without manipulating the environment or variables, addressing questions such as what, how much, how many, how often, or how long.
Correlational Research
A quantitative research type focused on testing relationships between variables, such as the connection between illegal drug use and crime rate.
Causal-Comparative Research
A quantitative research type focused on identifying causes and effects by comparing groups, such as examining students' behavior in schools with strict versus non-strict disciplinary policies.
Experimental Research
A type of quantitative research where changes in a variable take place or are tested to observe outcomes, such as evaluating the effects of guava leaves extract against E. coli.
Similarities of Quantitative and Qualitative Research
Both explain phenomena, have the potential to scrutinize the same hypothesis, are limited by variables, and can conduct a survey.
Quantitative Data Characteristics
Features of quantitative research that include being objective, using created guidelines, known variables, measurement and counting, formal presentation, and statistics to predict and confirm theory.
Quantitative Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Expands knowledge of human thinking, causes, perceptions, behaviors, and attitudes to follow steps in objectively concluding answers and alleviating problems experienced by a collective.
