Bacon’s Rebellion (1676)

due to a growing social pressure for land in Virginia, two individuals posed two ideas which opposed each other. this caused controversy that eventually led to rebellion.

William Berkley: large landowner who believed that attempting to gain land would increase warfare with native people (appealed to large landowners)

Nathanial Bacon: became a voice for discontented colonists that wanted an opportunity to gain land and status by encouraging colonists to push further inland and take the land from indigenous people (appealed to lower status landowners)
