Sutural Ligament
The layer of connective tissue situated between skull bones at immobile joints called sutures.
Diploe
The layer of spongy bone situated between the external and internal tables of compact bone in the skull.
Cranium
The upper and posterior region of the skull consisting of 8 cranial bones that enclose and protect the brain.
Facial Skeleton
The anterior part of the skull composed of 14 facial bones.
Coronal Suture
The major cranial suture that attaches the frontal bone anteriorly to the parietal bones posteriorly.
Sagittal Suture
The midline suture located between the two parietal bones, extending from the coronal suture to the lambdoid suture.
Lambdoid Suture
The suture on the posterior aspect of the skull separating the occipital bone from the parietal bones.
Squamous Suture
The suture forming the boundary between the temporal bone and the parietal bone on each side of the skull.
Norma Frontalis
The anterior view of the skull, composed of the frontal bone, zygomatic bones, maxillae, and mandible.
Norma Verticalis
The superior view of the skull cap.
Norma Lateralis
The lateral view of the skull.
Norma Occipitalis
The posterior view of the skull.
Norma Basalis
The inferior view of the external base of the skull.
Glabella
A median elevation on the frontal bone located between the two supraciliary arches above the root of the nose.
Nasion
The anatomical landmark marking the meeting point of the frontonasal and internasal sutures.
Supraorbital Notch
A opening or notch located at the junction between the medial 1/3 and lateral 2/3 of the superior orbital margin that transmits the supraorbital nerve and vessels.
