Functional Communication Training (FCT)
A behavioral intervention designed to teach individuals to communicate their needs functionally, reducing problem behavior.
Immediate Reinforcement
A reinforcement strategy where a reward is delivered immediately following a desired behavior.
Delay Fading
A procedure that gradually increases the delay between a communicative response and the delivery of reinforcement to teach tolerance.
Alternative Reinforcers
Preferred stimuli provided during delays to reinforcement that compete with problem behavior and help decrease its occurrence.
Intellectual Disability
A term for limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior, affecting conceptual, social, and practical skills.
Functional Assessment
An evaluation process used to identify the environmental reinforcers maintaining problem behavior.
Aggression
Behavior involving physical or verbal abuse, often used in context referring to responses in behavioral assessments.
Tangible Reinforcement
Reinforcement that involves access to physical items or activities as a reward for desired behavior.
Interobserver Agreement
A measure of reliability, the extent to which different observers agree on what they observe.
Noncontingent Reinforcement (NCR)
A reinforcement schedule that provides access to a reinforcer independently of the behavior being targeted.
