Wisdom Literature
Commonly called wisdom literature, emphasizes human reason, originates from God, applies to all of life
Lyrical Literature
Also known as the Song of Songs, remind us of the importance of love relationships-with God and others-for human existence.
Book of Job
Explores the case of one who is exceptionally righteous but suffers greatly.
Retribution Theology
A simplistic view of the law: good behavior is always rewarded, and bad is always punished.
Psalms
Collection of 150 poems put to music that addresses a wide variety of human situations in which one can worship God.
Laments
Poems penned for when things did not go well; openly vented emotions experienced in times of great sorrow, loss, or disappointment.
Proverbs
A collection of collections, all on the subject of wisdom.
Ecclesiastes
An advanced and reflective wisdom text intended for those mature and experienced enough to deal with dark and difficult questions; states that God gives meaning to life.
Song of Solomon
Celebrates God's gift of romantic love and sexual love within the context of a marital relationship.
