What is a pure substance?
A pure substance is matter that has distinct, uniform properties, chemical composition, and all particles that makeup the substance are the same
What are mixtures?
Mixtures are made up of different pure substances that do not chemically combine
Types of mixtures
Homogeneous- Solutions, alloys and colloids
Heterogeneous- Mechanical mixtures, suspension, and emulsion
What is an alloy?
Two or more metals melted and cooled
What is a solution?
Several items mixed together but appears to be one substance
What is suspension?
Substances from two different phases that do not fully mix together (liquid and solid)
What is a mechanical mixture?
The substances can be easy separated and can see all components
What is an emulsion?
Substances from the same phases that do not mix together (liquid and a liquid)
