What is simple diffusion?
Movement of molecules from high to low concentration directly through the membrane.
What is facilitated diffusion?
Movement from high to low concentration through a membrane protein.
What is active transport?
Movement from low to high concentration using energy and transport proteins.
What energy does active transport use?
ATP.
What is osmosis?
Diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
What is an isotonic solution?
A solution with the same solute concentration as the cell.
What happens in an isotonic solution?
Water moves both ways with no net movement.
What are prokaryotic cells?
Cells without a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles.
What are eukaryotic cells?
Cells with a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
6 aspects of wellness wheel
Physical: having self control in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Occupational: finding the fulfillment and meaning of your job.
Social: how we connect with others and get along.
Spiritual: value the meaning and purpose of life
Intellectual: being open to learn new things.
Emotional: being in touch with your feelinh and emotion
Endocytosis
the general process where the cell membrane surrounds something outside the cell and brings it inside in a vesicle.
Phagocytosis
The cell takes in large solid particles, such as food particles or other large materials.
Phago = eating
Pinocytosis
The cell takes in extracellular fluid and the dissolved substances in it.
Pino = drinking
Exocytosis
A vesicle moves to the cell membrane, fuses with it, and releases its contents outside the cell.
EXO = EXIT → OUT of the cell
Feedback loop
Stimulus → Receptor → control center
→ effector → response
