Early Modern Era
A historical period approximately from the late 15th century to the late 18th century, marked by significant social, political, and cultural changes, including the rise of nation-states, exploration, and the beginnings of globalization.
World systems theory
Framework for understadning global powers through these three regions: core, semi-peripheral, and peripheral. The core regions are where all the trade happens and semi-peripheral is between core and peripheral regions, playing a role in both.

The Encounter
First contact between Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia after Colombus’s voyage in 1492. Conseqeuences resulted in colubmian exchange, indigneous death, and the slave trade.

cash crops, spices, silver, furs, tea, coffee, potatoes, silk
mercantilism
an economic policy that promoted the motherland by using colonies to provide raw materials
Spanish Exploration
Conquistadors who were looking for gold, silver, fountain of youth, and the NW Passage.
encomienda system
It gave settlers the right to tax local Native Americans or to make them work. In exchange, these settlers were supposed to protect the Native American people and convert them to Christianity
Portuguese Exploration
The explorations of Atlantic islands for fish, seals, whales, timber, and lands to plant wheat. The start of the sugar plantations in the Atlantic.
Columbian Exchange
exchange of goods between old and new world (plants, animals, disease, trade, labor)
race, racism, slavery
history in congo and angola, slaves were taken in exchange for european goods

english french and spanish came to new world for colonziation
