chemotropic- through chemicals

2
New cards

number two on how does bacteria get energy?

heterotrophic- through other organisms decomposition

3
New cards

number three source of energy

autotrophic- through the sun

4
New cards

what do nitrogen cycles need for nitrogen fixation

need bacteria

5
New cards

what is the main difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes

prokaryotes- lack a nucleus! they are less complex (bacteria)

eukaryotes have a nucleus (plants and animals)

6
New cards

what’s an antigen?

any substance that causes your body’s immune system to produce antibodies against it.

7
New cards

what’s an antibodies

specialized protein made by your immune system to identify and destroy foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses.

8
New cards

explain the relationship between antigens and antibodies

antigens are on the surface of a pathogen, your body has antibodies. antibodies bind to a specific antigen. the antibodies flag that antigen for destruction by the immune system.

9
New cards

list the key characteristics of viruses

contain genetic material, contains no cells(made up of some proteins), needs a host in order to reproduce

10
New cards

how do vaccines work

-injected with a dead or weakened verizon of the actual virus

  • once injected your immune system will react and create antibodies to this virus.

  • your body then recognizes this pathogen the next time it is encountered

  • you do this to prepare your body.

New cards

antibiotic resistance

in order to fight a bacterial infection, you take a antibiotic. however, bacteria can build a resistance to antibiotics leading to super germs.

since you cannot take that antibiotic it becomes harder to treat that illness.

FINISH WHOLE COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS and DONT MISUSE

12
New cards

what is an autoimmune disorder

when your body fights against itself

13
New cards

is all bacteria bad

no! we need it to digest food! synthesize vitamins!

14
