What compartment is the quads in?
Anterior
What compartment is the hamstrings in?
Posterior
What compartment is the adductors in?
Medial
What innervates the quads?
Femoral n
What innervates the hamstrings?
sciatic n
What innervates the adductors?
obturator n

What muscle is this?
-Sartorius

What muscle is this?
Recuts femoris

What muscle is this?
Vastus Lateralis

What muscle is this?

What are the branches of the Femoral N in the thigh?
-anterior femoral cutaneous N branches
-Saphenous N
-muscular branches
What are the vessels of the thigh?
Femoral branches into Deep femoral which branches into:
-perforating Aa
-medial femoral circumflex a
-Lateral femoral circumflex a
Cruciate anastomosis
-around the neck and greater trochanter of femur.
-Formed by: first perforating branch off deep femoral, medial and lateral femoral circumflex Aa, branches of femoral
arteries and inferior Gluteal branches
Where are the arteries in Cruciate anastomosis derived from?
Arteries derived from both the external and internal iliac systems surround the femoral neck and have branches that travel along the neck to supply the
head
What happens to the blood supply after an injury to the head of the femur?
No intra-osseus anastomoses are present between the head and neck which can limit the vascular supply to the head of the femur after injury
What are the muscles of the medial compartment of the thigh?
-gracilis
-pectineus
-adductor longus
-adductor brevis
-adductor magnus
-adductor minimus
-obturator externus

What muscle is this?
Gracilis

What muscle is this?
Pectineus

What muscle is this?
adductor longus

What muscle is this?
adductor brevis

What muscle is this?
adductor magnus

What muscle is this?
adductor minimus

What muscle is this?
Obturator externus
Course of obturator N in the thigh
Arises in abdomen from lumbar plexus (L2-4), enters pelvis on deep medial aspect of psoas major, and runs in extraperitoneal fat along lateral wall of pelvis to obturator foramen.
Division of obturator N
Divides into anterior and posterior parts (split by adductor brevis m), with the anterior part traveling between adductor longus and adductor brevis and the posterior part traveling between adductor brevis and adductor magnus
What are the vessels of the medial compartment of the thigh?
-femoral a
-deep femoral a
-obturator a and v
What are the branches of the femoral a in the medial thigh?
muscular branches
What are the branches of the deep femoral a in the medial thigh?
perforating branches
What are the branches of the obturator a and v in the medial thigh?
branch of internal iliac, enters thigh through obturator canal with
obturator N
What does the obturator a supply in the medial thigh?
supplies obturator externus, some supply to adductor Mm and has an
acetabular branch that provides the artery to the head of the femur
