red blood cells (RBC)
aka erythrocytes, they’re the most common blood cell and the principal oxygen-delivering cell
white blood cells (WBC)
aka leukocytes, they’re cells of the immune system that defend against pathogens and are indicators of infection
hemoglobin (HGB)
iron-containing oxygen transport protein that’s part of red blood cells
hematocrit (HCT)
tells the percentage of red blood cells in the blood
platelets (PLT)
these play an important role in homeostasis and clot formation
