What does PI3K stand for?
Phosphoinositide 3-kinase.
How is PI3K activated?
RTKs activate PI3K, which phosphorylates PIP2 to form PIP3.
What does PIP3 do?
It recruits Akt (also called protein kinase B) to the membrane, where Akt becomes activated.
What does activated Akt do?
Akt promotes cell survival and growth by inhibiting apoptosis and stimulating protein synthesis.
What role does mTOR play in this pathway?
Akt activates mTOR, a key regulator of cell metabolism and growth.
