Setter
The player on the team who sets the team's attackers. They are similar to a quarterback in football, or a point guard in basketball in the sense that they run the team's offense.
Outside hitter
Usually the team's primary attackers. These players attack balls that are set to the left side of the court.
Weak Side Hitter
They hit from the right side of the court and are usually not the primary attacker on the team.
Middle Hitter
They are sometimes the primary attacker. They are commonly used as a decoy to freeze or confuse the opposing team’s blockers. They are often in charge of front-row players to coordinate team blocking strategy.
Libero
They play a special role in team defense and passing. They are the players that can come into the game and replace any player on the back row, sometimes referred to as DS (defensive specialist). They usually wear a different color jersey and cannot play the front row.
Dig
Passing a spiked or topspin hit ball.
Roof
When a player jumps above the height of the net and blocks the ball
Approach
Fast strides toward the net by a spiker before they jump in the air
Side out
When the team that served the ball makes a mistake, causing the ball to go to the other team
Forearm Pass
Making contact with the ball using your elbows to your wrists with an underhand motion.
