Seeming real or true but actually based on an illusion or mistaken impression.
Imposing
Impressive because of great size, appearance, or dignity.
Ingenious
Clever, inventive, and original, especially in solving a problem.
Meticulous
Extremely careful and precise, with close attention to every detail.
Pristine
In an original, unspoiled condition; also, perfectly clean and fresh.
Affecting
Stirring feelings of sadness, tenderness, or sympathy; emotionally moving.
Engender
To cause a feeling, situation, or condition to develop.
Constrict
To become, or make something, narrower or tighter.
Honor
Great respect or esteem; to show respect for someone or something.
Repudiate
To reject firmly, deny the truth of, or refuse to be associated with something.
Pervasive
Present or spreading throughout much of an area, group, or situation.
Credible
Believable or worthy of trust; convincing enough to be accepted.
Assertive
Confident and direct in expressing needs or opinions, without being aggressive.
Profound
Very deep, intense, or far-reaching; showing great understanding or insight.
Anticipate
To expect something, often preparing for it; also, to look forward to it.
Withdraw
To remove or take back; to move away or stop participating.
Steer
To control the direction of a vehicle; more generally, to guide a course of action.
Controversy
Public disagreement or debate about an issue. Use "in" to name the field where it occurs.
Exposure to
Contact with, experience of, or being subjected to something, whether helpful or harmful.
Dependence on
Reliance on someone or something for support or to meet a need.
Advancement in
Progress or improvement in a particular field, skill, or area.
Prolong
To make something last longer than it otherwise would.
Counteract
To reduce, oppose, or cancel the effect of something.
Trigger
To cause an event, reaction, or process to begin.
Soothe
To calm someone or ease pain, distress, or irritation.
Indifferent
Not interested or concerned; having no strong preference or feeling.
Revolted
Feeling intense disgust or strong aversion.
Superior
Better in quality or ability, or higher in rank. Common pattern: superior to.
Fusion
The joining of separate things into a single whole.
Dismissal
The act of rejecting something, sending someone away, or ending someone's employment.
Critique
A careful analysis and evaluation; to examine and evaluate strengths and weaknesses.
Simplification
The process of making something less complicated or easier to understand.
Restate
To express something again, often more clearly or in different words.
Detect
To discover or notice something, especially something not immediately obvious.
Enroll
To officially register, or register someone, for a course, organization, or activity.
Value
Worth, importance, or usefulness; to consider something important or worthwhile.
Disregard
To ignore or pay no attention to something; a lack of attention or concern.
Display
To show something so it can be seen; an arrangement or act of showing things.
Irrelevant to
Not connected with, or not useful for, the matter being considered.
Prohibitive
So costly or demanding that it prevents an action; also, forbidding something. Often: prohibitive in cost.

Characteristic of something and helping distinguish it from others; not necessarily unique to it.
Constrain
To limit or restrict someone's freedom, actions, or available choices.
Undermine
To weaken or damage something, often gradually or indirectly.
Captivated by
Having one's attention or interest held strongly by something fascinating.
Predictable
Able to be expected or forecast because it follows a familiar pattern.
Timeworn
Worn by age or use; also, overused and no longer fresh or original.
Accentuate
To emphasize something or make it more noticeable.
Rectify
To correct an error or put an unsatisfactory situation right.
Obscure
Little known or hard to understand or see; to hide or make less clear.
Nebulous
Vague, poorly defined, or lacking a clear form or meaning.
Unprecedented
Never done, experienced, or known before; having no previous example.
Concrete
Specific and definite rather than vague or abstract; also, physically real.
Spectacle
An impressive, striking, or unusual sight or public display.
Reproduction
The making of a copy, or the copy itself; also, the biological production of offspring.
Pretentiousness
An attempt to seem more important, cultured, or impressive than is justified.
Disguise
A change of appearance that hides identity or nature; to conceal in this way.
Enduring
Lasting for a long time; continuing despite difficulty or change.
Conspicuous
Easy to see or notice, often because it stands out from its surroundings.
Deserving
Worthy of a particular response, especially help, praise, or reward.
Uncertain
Not sure, known, settled, or definite.
Equivocal
Ambiguous or not clearly committed to one meaning, position, or conclusion.
Persuasive
Effective at making someone accept an idea, belief, or course of action.
Exclusive
Restricted to certain people or uses; not shared with others.
Irreproachable
Beyond justified criticism or blame; faultless in conduct or quality.
Unequivocal
Clear and definite, leaving no doubt or room for misunderstanding.
Insuperable
Impossible to overcome, as an obstacle or difficulty.
Ineluctable
Impossible to escape or avoid; inevitable.
Precede
To come before someone or something in time, order, or position.
Designate
To officially select, appoint, name, or assign for a particular purpose.
Nurture
To care for and support the growth or development of someone or something.
Preclude
To prevent something from happening or make it impossible.
Assess
To evaluate the nature, quality, importance, or value of something.
Unvarying
Remaining the same; showing no change or variation.
Objective
Based on facts and evidence rather than personal feelings or preferences.
Reciprocate
To respond with a similar action or feeling; to give something in return.
Annotate
To add explanatory or critical notes to a text, image, or diagram.
Equalize

Extremely ugly, unpleasant, or shocking.
Irresolvable
Unable to be solved, settled, or resolved.
Self-contradictory
Containing claims or ideas that conflict with one another.
Imperative
Extremely important or necessary; requiring urgent attention or action.
Unavoidable
Impossible to prevent or escape.
Convince
To make someone firmly believe something or agree to do something.
Distract
To draw attention away from what someone is doing or thinking about.
Fluctuate
To rise and fall or change irregularly in amount, level, or intensity.
Testify
To give evidence as a witness; also, to serve as evidence of something.
Conflict
A serious disagreement or clash; to be incompatible or in opposition.
Mock
To make fun of someone or something, often through insulting imitation.
Apprised of
Informed or made aware of something. Not the same as appraised (evaluated).
Unsympathetic to
Showing little understanding or compassion for; also, not supportive of an idea.
Cited in
Mentioned or quoted in a source, often as evidence or an example.
Placated by
Made less angry or hostile by reassurance, a concession, or another action.
Dispersed
Scattered or spread out over an area; no longer gathered together.
Customary
Usual or traditional in a particular place, group, or situation.
