Photosynthesis
A process used by green plants and some other organisms to make their own food using light energy.
Conditions Required for Photosynthesis
Sunlight, Chlorophyll, Carbon dioxide (CO2), and Water (H2O).

Chloroplast
The site of photosynthesis in a plant cell, containing stroma, thylakoids, and grana.
Stroma
The fluid found inside the chloroplast.
Granum
A stack of thylakoids found within the chloroplast.
Thylakoid
The individual membrane-bound compartments that make up a granum inside the chloroplast.
Glucose
A type of sugar (C6H12O6) produced during photosynthesis that provides energy to plants.
Starch
The form in which extra glucose is stored in the leaves of a plant.
Stomata
Pores in the leaf used for the exchange of gases, allowing CO2 to enter and O2 to be released.
Palisade Mesophyll
The layer of leaf tissue that contains chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
Spongy Mesophyll
The layer of leaf tissue containing air spaces between cells.
Endothermic reaction
A type of chemical reaction that requires energy (such as light energy) to proceed, a category which includes photosynthesis.
Raw materials for photosynthesis
The essential substances required: Carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and chlorophyll.
